Stockholm
Besides our lab, there are plenty of wonderful things in Stockholm.
Beauty on the water
Stockholm is built on 14 islands connected by 57 bridges creating a city surrounded by water so clean that you can go swimming or fishing even in the very heart of the city.
No car, no problem
Stockholm has an excellent public transportation network with trains, subways, buses, and even boats. The subway system is said to be the world’s longest art exhibit as almost all of its stations are decorated by artists.
Speak English?
Almost everyone in Stockholm speaks English and is happy to do so with foreigners. You are not expected to learn the language but if you want to, the city offers free Swedish courses.
Meeting Nobel minds
Every year in December, the Nobel Prize award ceremony takes place at Stockholm's City Hall. You get a chance of meeting the Laureates at events organized during the Novel week.
A special cup of coffee
Fika is Swedish for a coffee break that’s more about socializing than drinking coffee. Fika is an important part of everyday life and something sweet is always welcome.
Soak up the sun
Summers in Stockholm can be glorious with up to 21h of light. So get you sun in before winter where the capital sees a mere six hours of sunlight on the shortest day.
Need a place to stay?
Stockholm is an amazing city to live in, but it can be somewhat tricky to find accommodation. Here are some tips for you:
Teams
Currently active research and development
GROMACS Development
Our group is responsible for a versatile software package enabling researchers worldwide to perform molecular dynamics, i.e. simulate the Newtonian equations of motion for systems with hundreds to millions of particles.
Wetting, Flow & pH
This project studies molecular processes in dynamic wetting, including how they affect larger-scale systems and interface with theoretical models.
Membrane-Protein Modeling
The Delemotte Lab models the molecular basis for excitability and signal transduction in membrane proteins, as well as developing new protocols for sampling and analysis of molecular dynamics.
Ion Channel Gating
How does membrane potential activate pacemaker channels of the heart? What is the molecular basis of sodium channels inactivation, the process, which prevents prolonged depolarization of membranes?
MD Simulations Analysis
How can one use various methods of data analysis to extract physiologically relevant information from a large ensemble of protein conformations observed in simulations?
Enhanced Sampling
How can one use enhanced sampling techniques to understand biological phenomena, characterize the free energy and the kinetics of biomolecular processes?
GPCRs
How do GPCRs activate? How is the ligand binding site coupled to the intracellular domain?
Transporter Dynamics
How is substrate recognized in sugar porters? What drives the changes of these proteins through their alternating access mechanism?
Modulation
How are membrane proteins modulated by lipids and/or drugs?
Integrative Structural Biology
Structure, function, and simulation methods are applied to characterize biomolecules, with a frequent focus on allosteric modulation of ligand-gated ion channels.
