Biography:

Marina was born in Elektrostal (Russia), a small town close to Moscow. She did her bachelor and master studies at Moscow State University at the Department of Biology. After graduation, she started her PhD with Mounir Tarek at the University of Lorraine in France. During the 3 years of her PhD, Marina was exploring the modulation of voltage-gated potassium channels (Kv) by membrane lipids. When she finished her PhD, Marina moved to Phliadelphia, USA, to do postdoctoral studies under the supervision of Michael Klein and Vincenzo Carnevale (2 years). She was mostly focusing on TRP channels, exploring their mechanism of gating and temperature sensitivity. After this postdoc, Marina started to work at the Science for Life Laboratory with Lucie Delemotte, Erik Lindahl and Berk Hess. Here, she develops a protocol to detect voltage-sensing elements in membrane proteins. She also explores the gating of hyperpolarization-activated cyclic-nucleotide-gated ion channels using resources of Anton supercomputer. In her free time, Marina likes doing fitness, listening scientific podcasts and reading.
